  • Welcome I read my first romance novel at the age of thirteen, having purloined it from the basement bookshelf of a friend of the family. (My belated apologies to the daughter of the house, whose book it was.) At that point, Gilbert Blythe and Anne Shirley still fed my most feverish romantic fantasies, so Christopher Saxon (alias Captain Saber, dashing Caribbean privateer and general rapscallion) and that flame-haired hoyden Nicole Ashford gave me quite a turn. A delicious and rather eye-opening turn, I hasten to add.
